Verification of the Earth Coat Effect: Raman Spectroscopy Test

We examined the effectiveness of the corrosion-resistant coating "Earthcoat Rust Conversion Coating System," which is highly resistant to salt damage! We analyzed the condition of the steel coated on a red rust surface!

Rust conversion coatings come in a wide range of products, from household paints to heavy-duty anti-corrosion coatings used for structures like bridges. To use an analogy with automobiles, while the role of "running" is the same, the capabilities vary from compact cars to sports cars. The same applies to rust conversion coatings; although they may turn black, they can sometimes yield less than satisfactory results. Therefore, we applied Earth Coat to a rusted steel surface (test plate) and removed the coating after several years using a stripping agent, then investigated the physical properties of the steel surface. The results showed that before application, the steel surface had a significant amount of red rust (Fe2O3 hematite), but three years after application, black rust (Fe3O4 magnetite) was definitely present, and red rust (Fe2O3 hematite) was not detected. It was concluded that Raman analysis is considered the most effective method for qualitative analysis of the surface near the steel. Since this method has yielded good results in testing, we hope it can serve as one of the criteria for determining whether this method's performance is equal to or better than other methods.
